Robotic-assisted surgery

Bartlett is the first hospital in Southeast Alaska to offer minimally invasive robotic-assisted surgeries. The da Vinci Xi Robot is the next frontier for minimally invasive surgery combining the latest assisted surgical technologies which allows for easier access to targeted areas.

Robotic-assisted surgery puts a surgeon’s hands at the controls of a leading-edge robotic platform. The da Vinci Surgical System uses advanced robotic, computer, and optical technology to assist the surgeon, but the robot does not act on its own - its movements are controlled by the surgeon. Clinical outcomes with robotic surgery may include a shorter length of stay in the hospital, lower post-surgery pain and use of medications, lower complication rates and faster recovery.

Installation and training on the da Vinci Xi Robot began in March 2023. Bartlett’s surgical team began performing robotic-assisted surgeries in May 2023. Those facing minimally invasive surgery should ask their surgeon if da Vinci robotic surgery is right for them.

What to Expect From Our Surgery Team

Having surgery usually doesn’t involve a long hospital stay. In many cases, patients can go home the same day as their surgery. This is partly because the surgeons at Bartlett use minimally invasive techniques, also called advanced laparoscopy, whenever possible. These small-incision surgeries often result in reduced post-surgery pain as well as a quicker recovery.

The surgeons and surgical physician assistants at Bartlett also perform minor procedures in the doctor’s office, including hemorrhoid banding, cyst removals and vasectomies.

No matter what type of surgery you may need, we explain every step. That’s part of how we help you feel comfortable and at ease.
