Laboratory Services

Bartlett Regional Hospital's clinical laboratory is accredited by the College of American Pathologists and includes state-of-the-art analytical instruments.

The laboratory performs a wide variety of tests, with results reaching the physician either the same day or the next day. While most tests are processed locally, we forward tests that aren't frequently requested to a reference lab, usually in Seattle. Results of reference tests are often available within 1 to 3 days.

All testing requires written orders from a healthcare professional. Doctors' orders may be faxed to 907.796.8466 or brought to the laboratory at the time of service.

Walk-in Lab Testing

The laboratory performs routine testing between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Most routine testing is done on a first-come, first-served basis during these regular business hours.

Note that some tests, like cholesterol and triglyceride checks, are more accurate when performed after fasting (one may not eat anything for 8 to 12 hours before testing but should continue drinking water). Ask your doctor or call us if you have any questions about preparing for your test.

Lab Tests That Require an Appointment

Patients need to call the lab at 907.796.8860 to schedule the following tests, which require specific instructions:

  • Bone marrow donation screenings.
  • Glucose tolerance tests (for diabetes or hypoglycemia).
  • Paternity testing.
  • Sweat chlorides.
  • Urine drug-screening collection.
  • 24-hour urine collection.

After-Hours Lab Tests

If a physician feels that special circumstances require testing during the off hours or on holidays, arrangements can be made for that testing. Since the laboratory has minimal staffing during off hours, priority is given to emergency and inpatient testing.

Our Commitment to Quality Lab Results

In keeping with a commitment to accuracy and precision, the laboratory runs numerous quality-control procedures as well as performs daily, weekly and monthly maintenance according to exacting specifications established by regulatory agencies.
