Diabetes Education

Bartlett Regional Hospital offers diabetes education appointments to help you understand your health condition and learn to live with diabetes. Our educators work with you and your medical providers in order to help you control your diabetes so it won't control you. We offer information about type 1 and type 2 diabetes, gestational diabetes, and prediabetes.

If you have questions or concerns about your diabetes condition, we offer private appointments with a registered nurse/certified diabetes educator (RN-CDE) or registered dietitian. Ask about appointments with our endocrinologist.

Education Programs

Diabetes Self-Management Education

Our diabetes education classes teach you how to control blood sugar through understanding the importance of nutritional management, physical activity, blood sugar monitoring and interpretation, medications, acute and chronic complications, and improving the quality of your life with diabetes.

Our classes are taught by a multidisciplinary team including nurse/certified diabetes educator, dietitian, pharmacist, social worker, and cardiac rehab nurse. Bartlett Regional Hospital is proud of our Diabetes Education Program. It has been identified as a quality program meeting the National Standards for Diabetes Self-Management Education by the American Diabetes Association.

Most healthcare insurers provide coverage for diabetes outpatient education and training—check with your insurance provider to verify coverage. Our program meets criteria for Medicare reimbursement.

Prediabetes Education

People with prediabetes can prevent or delay the onset of type 2 diabetes.

Prediabetes is a condition present in the majority of people before developing type 2 diabetes.

The prediabetes class presents information about prediabetes and strategies to avoid developing diabetes.

Though aimed at people diagnosed with prediabetes, this class is open to anyone wanting information to avoid diabetes and improve their health.

Most insurance companies do not cover the cost of private appointments for prediabetes education with the certified diabetes educator or registered dietitian. Check with your health insurance carrier.

There is no cost for 1.5 hours of instruction and materials. Please call 907.796.8649 to register for the class.
