Giving grief a voice and finding common ground

Loss of a pregnancy is much more common than most people realize. Chances are, you know someone who has had this painful experience. It's also pretty likely that they have never talked with you about it.

Dealing with loss is often something we do in private. It can be lonely and isolating. To help, Bartlett Beginnings has partnered with Bartlett's Behavioral Health to offer a monthly processing and support group for women who have experienced the loss of a pregnancy or infant. Beginning in February 2021, the group began meeting through Zoom sessions. Sessions have been small so far, but they have sparked interest from folks not just within our local community but all the way across the country.

Really making a difference

Another group that launched in February of this year is the Real Talk Mothers' Support Group. While Bartlett offers a number of other play groups and parent support groups for families with children from birth to three years old, the conversation mothers are likely to find in Real Talk is, well, just a bit more real. This group is an opportunity for participants to connect mother-to-mother and talk openly, without fear of judgment, about the parts of motherhood that are hard.

While both groups are just growing roots, the connections being formed already feel supportive, warm and uplifting. Women in both groups have expressed great appreciation for the time and space to connect and talk about thingsā€”to realize that they aren't alone in their experiences and feelings.

Sessions are facilitated by registered nurse Sara Gress, from Bartlett Beginnings Perinatal Programs, and Teri Forst, LPC-S, MAC, NCC, in partnership with Bartlett Behavioral Health.
