Cardiac/Pulmonary Rehabilitation

Cardiac Rehabilitation

A physician referral is needed to enter the Cardiac Rehabilitation or Pulmonary Rehabilitation Programs. If you are new to Juneau or have been in a Rehabilitation program elsewhere, a physician referral is still required. Services are covered by Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance, depending on your plan’s coverage; however, pre-authorization is not necessary. Our program is individualized for each person’s needs.

Medical conditions most often seen in Rehabilitation include:

  • Heart attack
  • Angina
  • Open heart surgery
  • Post-valve surgery bypass surgery
  • Post-Stent procedure
  • Post-Angioplasty procedure

Home cardiac rehabilitation is available through the Cardiac Rehabilitation program using an Event Home Heart Monitor – a patient activated device that records heart rhythm. The monitors are also available for recording heart rhythms with a variety of symptoms, i.e., dizziness, passing out, and palpitations. A physician order is required for this monitor.

Pulmonary Rehabilitation

Pulmonary Rehabilitation treats such conditions as:

  • Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease
  • Emphysema
  • Bronchitis
  • Asthma
  • Other Pulmonary conditions determined by a physician.

In both programs people receive functional testing for their exercise capacity and an individualized exercise program is planned. Education and intervention in dietary considerations, lifestyle changes, medication control, stress reduction techniques, smoking cessation and other psycho-social concerns are included as part of both rehabilitation programs.
