What our patients say about us
Excerpts from recent patient feedback:
“I just wanted all of you to know, how impressed my wife and family were, with the care that was given to my wife, on her second TKA at this hospital. From pre-op, to anesthesia, to post-op, to med surg nursing care, physical therapy, and environmental services. All of it was top notch. Once again, my oldest daughter commented on how clean this hospital is, in comparison to the three hospitals in her locality.
I do not want to single out any particular person, as everyone who attended to my wife, was friendly, and professional. My eldest daughter also commented how the staff here seemed to be more attentive, and caring to patient needs, than what she is used to. The physical therapists were especially encouraging to my wife, in that SLOW process of recovery and advance, that follows such a painful surgery.
So, thanks again to all of you who had a part in my wife’s surgery and recovery.”
“I was recently in short stay and my experience was wonderful. From the front desk check-in until the time I checked out, everybody was kind and respectful. Thanks to all…keep it up.”
“I’m terrified of hospitals, but thanks to some al the people who helped me through my recent out-patient surgery, I feel a little less anxious.
My pre-op appointment was Nov. – and while I’ve forgotten that nurse’s name, she was so patient with me, thus the beginning if the kindness I would experience. The day of my surgery I met my nurse, Lena, who continued the high level of service and patience along with Joan who replaced Lena later that afternoon. There were many other along the way from the registration folks all the way to Dr. Wagner and Dr. Banyas.
Thanks for making a tough time easier!”
“I was thinking along these lines: I’ll quote (Jimmie the Cricket) [who] used to say, “It’s what one does with what one’s got that counts,” and being the situation that I see, I feel that this facility is trying to facilitate (meet) our (clients) needs to the best of its manageability. Which sometimes lack personnel.”
“My wife was brought to your hospital from our cruise ship by ambulance with pneumonia and breathing difficulties. Tom Howard and Dr. Alan McPherson were of immense comfort to us in the way they diagnosed and helped my wife to be more stable and comfortable.
We feel fortunate to have had this reception in [her] time of distress and feel truly blessed to have found this hospital in an area that is far from our home. Having Bartlett House so near the hospital has been another blessing for me."
"We want to thank Laura Dameron for her assistance in getting our arrangements made to return to our home in Arizona. After having to leave our cruise ship due to our wife’s illness, we were lost in a strange city and really needed help to get back home.
Laura worked with On Call to help get us pointed in the right direction and gave us a lot of assistance on local issues.
Thank you, Laura!”
"We have been very pleased with the nursing care that my wife has received during her stay in the hospital…
Each and every nurse and assistant has been cheerful, encouraging, and competent. In the critical care unit, Tish and Charlie were excellent, but all in every area were great. The pulmonary therapist did a great job, too.
We feel blessed to have been in Juneau when my wife became ill on our cruise ship. Bartlett House was another blessing, as I was able to be near my wife and to bring her things when she was discharged.
Thank you to all!”
“The facilities were great—clean, inviting, professional.
The highlight of my enjoyable experience though was the staff – especially Bonnie. Talk about a great point of contact between the hospital and client…wow! Welcoming, cheerful, humorous, pleasant, instilling confidence, orienting both me and my wife effectively. She is an asset…
Five star experience for me – even though I was just in the same day area and not an inpatient.”
“I found the admitting staff at Bartlett to be very proficient and helpful when checking in. The facility was clean and I found my way around quite well. When I needed direction, someone was always around and gave good directions. We were always able to find good parking places.
My therapist, Jill, was very clear on instructions and helpful in every way. I found her cheerful and very willing to explain my hand exercises and also help me find ways to make chores easier by changing old habits with use of my hands.”
“The occupational therapist was very helpful in helping daughter and daughter-in-law with guiding and taking care of [name withheld]. Jo also came out to the house and gave hints for household safety –Jo was extremely diplomatic in her suggestions and safety answers.
Thanks, thanks, thanks.”
“I am extremely impressed with my entire experience at Bartlett. The admitting clerks were very personable. They treated me like a person, not a number. My short-stay surgery nurse, Joan, was competent and caring. She treated me as a whole person rather than a walking large intestine!
Someone is doing an excellent job of employee education and it shows. Do I detect the work of Dianne Bigge here? I especially enjoyed how the Bartlett folks looked me right in the eyes and took the time to be sure I knew where I was going next.”
“I would like to express what a wonderful experience we had at Bartlett Regional Hospital today. My daughter had a small eye surgery today. The staff was very helpful and went out of their way to make sure everything went good. The nurses in short stay were GREAT and everyone we had contact with was friendly and kind. I feel that you guys really go out of your way to make sure the patients and their family are comfortable and well-informed.
Thanks for doing a wonderful job.”
“I had a short-stay surgery one week ago and have nothing but positive things to say about my experiences with the services, staff, and facilities…”
“The entire staff from the time I was admitted has been outstanding. I am hopeful that they can somehow be recognized and rewarded for their outstanding performance. The nurses and their aides went out of their way to make my stay assuring and comfortable.
My new room was clean and well thought out…a great addition to Bartlett.
My only complaint is the inability to connect to the internet with my personal laptop. I am a businesswoman and rely on computer technology to operate my business. In this modern age of technology, it would seem that it would be simple task to provide this valuable service to your patients.”
"My father was a doctor, and I am as well. I have never been sick a day in my life,
and no one has ever done anything for or to me medically who was not a personal
friend or close associate ... always in familiar environs. I spent thirty years in
university practice as a Department Head (Northwestern University, Penn State, & U
of AZ) and am now in private practice but remain a Surgical Section Chief and
member of our hospital's Medical Executive Committee in (City removed for HIPAA) largest
community hospital. I know hospitals, and I know doctors ... both of which can be
good or awful. Your hospital and personnel allayed my fears and exceeded my
expectations at every level ... and I am grateful.
Not so cleverly I managed to get sick for the first time and needed serious medical
care thousands of miles from home where I did not know a soul. I was
understandably concerned as my care was obviously at the mercy of the ED "call"
roster, but I had the good fortune to have Drs. Lindy Jones and Ben Miller on call the
morning I arrived. They were great, careful, thoughtful, and quick to act. They also
didn't hesitate to consult with my brother in law in California (a general surgeon)
and my close personal friend in AZ (Head of Medicine at the Uof AZ] and gave me
absolutely stellar care from minute number one to discharge. (Dr. Welling took over
on my discharge day and he was terrific as well).
Insofar as your hospital's staff is concerned, every step in my care was stunningly
well handled. Every need was provided for without a moment's delay. The nursing
staff and all other support personnel were kind and professional and responded to
my every need immediately.
I cannot thank you enough for running a five-star facility ... at all levels. I also want
you to know that (while new to the staff) Dr. Ben Miller needs special recognition.
Young, capable, confidant, and genuinely caring/concerned he is everything I look
for in an otherwise withering younger generation of physicians. There's a bit of a
"throwback" to the good old days in him. You're fortunate to have him ... as I was.
I also must thank Lindy Jones for his role in my care; he was as solid as an anvil,
kind, and genuinely fine and friendly through this affair. I feel that I made a friend in
the process ... thank you, Lindy.
I will be sharing my experience with my hospital's management team as a model
toward which they need to focus efforts. Understandably we're a much larger
facility and achieving your level of excellence will be a chore for that reason alone.
We have been working toward these goals for three years with an entirely new
administration and are making positive strides ... but there is always room for
improvement.
Again, I cannot thank you enough for everything your facility and people have done
for me."
“We want you to know the deep gratitude we feel toward the many people at Bartlett Regional Hospital who helped us during our unexpected medical journey during the month of August 2009. To say that we were impressed would be a monumental understatement…
…we cannot say enough about the people who assisted us – each person contributed to an experience that exceeded expectations. We name a few people below, but by no means is this list complete:
Dr. James Thompson; Social Worker Linda Harding; Primary RN Teresa Mallinger; Other RNs Brian Tennant, Kim Vermedal, Jill Robinson; Flight RNs Karen Fazanick, Diane Paul.
We wish we could personally thank each person who helped us. I thank you, my husband thanks you and my children and grandchildren thank you.”
“I recently underwent a sleep study at Bartlett Regional Hospital and wish to acknowledge the wonderful care and attention I received. Sarah, who I spoke with in preparing for the study was congenial and helpful…the fact that Dr. Susan Hunter-Joerns spent time with me the following morning to explain the interpretations of the initial findings and to share the possible implications was an unexpected surprise and a welcome part of the process. However, what stands out most in my mind is the professional manner in which Morning Star Sinclair conducted his responsibilities.
…It is not often that we meet someone who helps us feel as though we are the most important person while in his care. Star possesses this quality…
Morning Star Sinclair is an asset to Bartlett Regional Hospital and a wonderful representative whose bedside manner was of the highest quality.”
"I would like to express my profound appreciation for the wonderful care provided to me by the entire staff of med/surg...nurses and CNAs...during the time I have been here. THANK YOU!!! Debra Wagner, who was the nurse who cared for me after my third and most intense surgery, worked tirelessly all night long to make sure I didn't get to the level of pain (9.9) that I got to after the first surgeries, and to gently, quietly check on me to make sure that the level of pain medicine was steady so the pain wouldn't spike and wake me up as it had after the earlier surgeries. It felt like a ministering angel was watching over me all night long..."
"All I can say is everything was great! A good job done by all...services good and great...staff great and friendly and facility is wonderful. Love the remodeling job. I would not trade this hospital for anything."
"I recently have gone through the Bartlett Hospital Sleep Clinic. I was very impressed with the professionalism of the staff (Star Sinclair and Sara Gillis-Boyd). They were friendly and instructive as they were explaining the procedure to me. My doctor, Hunter-Joerns, came in after the test to further explain how using the CPAP equipment will increase my health. I am glad that I am getting the oxygen I need while I sleep."
"...Mary Szcepanski of Bartlett nursing staff profoundly affected me in reducing pain levels with her seven or eight healing touch treatments. I am very grateful for her work in providing such care for me. The healing touch treatments were efficacious to the extreme."
"Thank you for the wonderful care you gave my husband...when he was in the hospital. Everyone was so helpful, caring and sharing information. Thank you again for your response in a time of need."
"Workers at Bartlett Hospital Rock! Thank you for my good time here."
"When you walk in it's kinda weird that you have to know to go to the closed door rooms to the left. When there is no patient in the room the door should be left open so a patient knows that room is free for them to receive assistance. The little yellow sign is kinda goofy."
"During my stay at your hospital your staff and Dr. Marco Wen were as professional as I could have imagined. To doctors and staff I wish you all a happy new year and God bless you."
"There are so many names to list so I'm going to try to name a few: Dr. Topol, Holly, Ginny, Sue, Si Si, Naomi, Leslie, Lena, Gunner, Russ, D.J., Mike, Bob and I'm sorry I'm at a loss for more; but a great big "hug" of appreciation to each and every one of you for helping me so much through a tough crisis in my life. Thank you will all of my heart. You're all great Alaskan human beings!"
"Everything was done in a timely manner...the staff were real helpful learning about stress and what it can do to you..."
"I greatly appreciate all of the MHU staff. I would like to offer special compliments to Russ, Aaron, Josephine and Gina and Matt. They are always supportive and available when I need them. They take the time to sit and talk with me. PS: Gunnar also..."
"I would like to extend my compliments to the staff at the Physical Rehabilitation Department. I began my OT in late January and completed in March. My therapist was Jill Lingle. I am extremely pleased with the results...All of the staff I encountered were caring and professional. My experiences with the rehab department are all positive."
"We want to express our deepest thanks in regards to the care provided for (our mother & father). The compassion and care given by all of the nursing staff is exceptional, as were the people in emergency. We also want to thank all of the doctors that were involved and we feel lucky to have found such quality care."
"You guys need Wi-Fi connection."
"I would suggest a sign pointing towards the registration rooms. I wasn't sure where registration was...didn't see the signs on the windows."
"I believe your cafeteria should be open more with a limited menu, i.e., sandwiches, chips, snacks, etc."
"Thank you so much for Bartlett Regional Hospital. If it were not for you, I wouldn't be writing this. My heart had stopped while in the emergency room checking in. Thank you so much for the wonderful work you perform. I shall always be grateful."
"My sister was recently a patient. She had a wonderful nurse! I wish I could remember her name. My sister was only there for one night, but she felt very comforted. Her only complaint was getting woke up in the night so the nurse could check her vitals. Been there! BRH has some wonderful nurses! Especially in short stay. Thank you!"
"Thank you to Sarah for her help with breastfeeding. She was very informative and helpful in figuring out how to feed my baby more comfortably. She also helped me care for my baby and feel more comfortable holding him. Thank you to Salud for helping me to continue to care for my baby and helping us get ready to discharge. Thank you to MJ for her friendly personality for talking with us and giving us advice on how to care for our baby."
"The staff and facilities are wonderful...very clean and professional."
"The entire staff are professional and efficient. They work hard to eliminate your pain and provide a peaceful atmosphere. The nurses are an example for service because they are polite even to impolite people."
